Better...I attended my first ever local Women of Today meeting this week, inspired by your book to find community. The group has social gatherings and does service projects in the community. I've lived in my town for 18 years and don't really know anyone, but that's going to change!
I've decided I'm going to intentionally and daily say something kind about someone else's work - be that commenting on and uplifting someone else's LinkedIn post, sending an email of gratitude to someone standing up for the right thing (I see you, Rachel Cohen), seeking out and reviewing authors with only a few comments on Goodreads, sending a sidenote on WhatsApp to someone in a larger group chat validating what they said, sending a note of appreciation to my former OB, etc.
(In typing this, I've realized I've sent these affirmation notes only to women so far. My other, decidedly negative feedback has been for Bresnahan, McCormick and Fetterman)
Anyway, my comment today is THANK YOU, Emily. Your interview earlier this week with Farnoosh Torabi was sobering yet helpful, and your explainer on IEEPA more succinct and useful than the New York Times's. Thanks for never dumbing down your content, yet always thinking through what someone who might not feel super confident in their own financial knowledge should know.
I’ve been gathering signatures for the referendum effort in Utah to overturn the bill that bans public worker unions, and it’s made me feel less hopeless. I don’t know if we’ll succeed (Utah’s referendum law is insanely difficult), but it has been really heartening to talk with people and see how many of them support the referendum. It’s given me some hope in ruby red Utah!
Sounds like a good read. And so were this week's posts! This has been true for some time, but your page (here or on Instagram) is the one thing I know won't waste my time on the internet. Quite the opposite. I love the emphasis on poltiics (and, as you say, all the inside baseball), but also find your cultural and product recommendations so helpful and fun. Thanks for everything, Emily!
I'm organizing an event so that Girl Scouts in my area can meet with our three female City Council members to learn about how our city council works and do a mock comment session on a real issue.
I made snack boxes for three friends - one is traveling a ton, one miscarried, and one had a spouse traveling and nis taking April off from work for health reasons. BIG IMPACT without a big meal.
It is hard to stay positive, for sure!! I've been so frustrated at what one person can do that last month I started making "gratitude-posts" on Saturdays on Facebook and Instagram, to celebrate organizations making good change. I figure people might benefit from a shout-out for the good work they are doing. Past ones are at https://susiremoldart.com/gratitude-project, or you can find them on social media if you search "#susiremoldartthankyous". Sneak peek: tomorrow I'll post about the Prison Book Program out of Quincy MA! I also take nominations -- I am enjoying learning about cool groups doing work that moves the needle!
Today I’m channeling my rage over the SAVE act passing the House into baking - homemade banana bread, sourdough bagels, and almond flour brownies! Better!
Better….and I stayed sane this week by connecting with college friends first a quick girls weekend. We bitched about the state of the country and made each other laugh
I became a US citizen this week and immediately registered up to vote. The League of Women voters volunteers at the citizenship ceremony and helps everyone register to vote as they are leaving the ceremony.
And I called my senator and representatives and ordered a peace rose for my garden. My grandmother loved them and I’m excited to try growing one (a little nervous too, don’t want to mess it up and I am not a rose expert… but hopeful)
Better ! I need to read this because I ended a 34yr marriage for the same reason!

I signed up to attend training to learn to do canvassing for Abigail Spanberger for Governor in Virginia! Election in November 2025!

Ty for this feedback!!!
Better!
I shared content about how tariffs work on socials and multiple people thanked me for helping them understand.
Better.
Also, the thing I did to make me feel better this week was to make spontaneous plans twice with friends. It was so life giving.

Better…I’m trying to be outside more, and counting down the days before I can plant my veggie garden.
