Thank you from a federal worker! We are tired and demoralized.

Thanks for your work! As someone who works in public health (funded by NIH...), I empathize with feeling demoralized right now.

Very helpful, Emily! I called my senators, who, unfortunately, are Cruz and Cornyn.

Same. It’s demoralizing 😭 I would like to think as much as I disagree with him Cornyn is less Trump boot licker and may be open to public opinion. We already know what Cruz thinks 🥲

Highly recommend following @5calls on IG and downloading their app for phone numbers and scripts on many other issues too. They keep track of the number of calls. It’s cool to see how many have been made on each issue. Senator mailboxes are full right now.

Thank you Emily! I called both of my Ohio (R sadly) Senators. I was able to talk to one staffer and leave a voicemail for the other. Glad to see others here doing the same!

Maybe it isn’t much, but I’m trying to believe that all of these collective actions from each of us add up!

If you're calling John Cornyn (TX), his comment voicemail is full. Press 3 to leave a message for a staff member. Don't forget to leave your name and zip code.

I called him and Cruz, not that I expect Cruz to do anything. I ended up using more profanity than I intended, but 🤷🏼‍♀️. My talking point was none of these people are qualified to run a chock fil a much less what they’re nominated for, but Russell Vought has screwed up massively and he’s not even confirmed yet

I hear ya! I was so mad when I called that my voice was shaking, so I'm sure they think I'm some shrinking flower. If they even listen to the messages. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm sure my voice will get steadier the more I call!

I do! And I called my State Senator today, too! I hate that we're having to fight on two fronts right now! Hang in there 💜

I tend to have better luck getting staff on the phone in Cornyn’s Austin office.

For anyone who wants to call this morning, I’ve created a script to protest the nomination of Russell Vought:

I’m calling to urge Senator [ ] to vote AGAINST Russell Vought’s nomination to head the OMB today. Obviously, Vought is a dangerous choice, not only because he believes the Impoundment Act to be unconstitutional, but because he is, I believe, part of an overarching plan to steal the power of the purse from Congress. The Senate needs to push back on Trump’s threats behind the scenes and vote to retain its independence. I urge Senator [ ] to vote not only in his constituents’ best interests—but his own. Vote against Vought, and demand someone better. Thank you.

Thank you, Emily. With all the chaos, I’m so grateful for your clear, informative, and actionable posts. It makes a difference to focus (versus doomscrolling and succumbing to the flood of awful, confounding news) and identify something I can do, and then to do it. I wouldn’t have time to do this on a daily basis otherwise. Your work is invaluable.

Called mine only to be told the funding freeze has been rescinded. News seems to be confirming this. Still told them to vote note. All my reps and senators are republicans so feel like I am screaming into the void already.

Becca Gev's avatar

I think we can all update what we say to acknowledge that while it has been rescinded for now, the fact that he supported the freeze is a huge danger to our country. Thanks for calling!!

Oh definitely! Still don’t want him confirmed either. Just wanted to update here so others weren’t caught off guard.

Thank you Emily! Call, email, post online, make a video! I know this stuff is all uncomfortable but living in the discomfort of picking up the phone or videotaping yourself is far better than the discomfort we will feel by saying nothing and allowing this to happen. At the very least, we can say we fought!
