Thank you for posting this, Emily! This has been making me so angry ever since they started threatening it. I grew up watching Mister Rogers and Arthur and my sons LOVE Wild Kratts and Daniel Tiger (and Donkey Hodie and Curious George and on and on). It just breaks my heart that they’re trying to take away funding for this.

Thank you for sharing Emily! I used PBS Kids when I was in the classroom and I love that it has a civics component. It's so needed (especially when we got rid of thematic units in lower grade levels). Also love the tidbit on the silent commute from Sarah!
Literally saw this as I'm watching PBS kids with my kids. Work it out Wombats, Sesame Street, Alma's Way, Wild Kratts and Lyla in the Loop are big favorites of theirs. As a parent I love them for so many reasons and not only because they're educational, on many levels, and engaging. I will definitely make some calls to reps about it! Thanks for sharing!
I've already contacted my legislators, but will continue to do so! I was raised on PBS programming, especially Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, and Wishbone. My two year old daughter loves Elmo and it breaks my heart to think that other children won't get the educational opportunities she has from PBS just because their adults can't afford a subscription.
I wouldn't sign the petition mutiple times, but you can call and say what Amy said! “I am a constituent and I urge you to reject the rescissions package and stop the dismantling of public media”
If you call your representatives, all you need to do is say, “I am a constituent and I urge you to reject the rescissions package and stop the dismantling of public media” (I took that phrasing from the Protect My Public Media site). They’ll take your name and might ask your zip code but they pretty much take you at your word that you are a constituent. I don’t think calling or signing the petition repeatedly makes a difference, I believe they count you one time.
Thanks for sharing! I've already written my senators and my representative about this using the Protect My Public Media website, and just received a response from one of my senators today. My kids are older now, but watched and loved Dinosaur Train, Daniel Tiger, Wild Kratts and Sesame Street when they were little. My daughter wanted to be a paleontologist until she got into 6th grade, and still loves dinosaurs even as a tween thanks to Dinosaur Train. I also grew up loving Mister Rogers and Sesame Street as a child. I still pay for the PBS Kids app, even though my kids are past that stage, just to make sure I put my money where my heart is.

Thank you for this interview. So interesting! I grew up with PBS and now my son loves Work it Out Wombats and the PBS kids games.
Thank you, Emily! Do you have a script for calling (in addition to the petition). Do you know if we can sign the petition multiple times?

You can also use the 5 Calls app. They have a script and will link your reps with their contact information.
