This is such a good way to see Scotland. I have a lot of family there and end up roped into those kind of activities. I would love to do this kind of road trip instead. Sounds amazing!
Not me reading every word knowing it's highly unlikely I'll ever do this. Also, I definitely agree with getting an automatic because I learned to drive on the "wrong side of the road" in Zambia, in a ramshackle Toyota truck and I do not recommend. Operating the gear shift with my left hand? While not running into other cars? Nope.
This trip sounds absolutely amazing. I have dreams of doing a solo Scotland trip in the next few years. What is the minimum number of days you think is worth the effort? I would be quite content hitting few spots and exploring those areas for a few days.
Oh I mean five days in Edinburgh is a fun vacay, with a day trip or two! I also think a week doing Inverness/Skye/Highlands would be fun! The driving distances are not particularly far but weather and traffic slows things down.
I was in Scotland for two weeks in July and am already planning a return trip. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions for the highlands. I only got a glimpse and it’s a must return spot for sure!
Nice itinerary. We did a bird of prey experience. It was so much fun! Just for our family and about a half a day. My husband does our planning and saw these experiences at the hotels and found a lady that does them out of her property. She rehabs, too. It was a great day for us and our kids.
Scotland is one of my favorite places ever. You can return over and over to do new things. I was there last month exploring Orkney and all of the neolithic sites there, and then down to Edinburgh for the Tattoo (bucket list--highly recommend). I've done primarily inns and Airbnbs and have never had a bad experience. Absolutely dreamy.
Scotland was my favorite of the long weekend trips when I was in England for a part of my masters degree. It's the place I would return to in a heartbeat and visit more of the Lochs. We were in Edinburgh, Inverness, and Loch Ness. I remember Inverness being quaint but I'd like to visit again and see more.
I would love more of this content. Mom of five, so used to groups, but I’m alone now and need to be more brave and go out alone
Informative
Great details, thank you! Scotland is on our travel list and having your list of hotels is incredibly helpful

Saving this! I’ve been to England multiple times but still have yet to make it up to Scotland.
