I truly hate posting on Instagram. But I’ve been doing more of it because of what I’ve been learning from you! And also because my conscience will not let me stay silent in this moment. However my SM skills are abysmal. I’m also a 39 yr old solo (no co parent) full time working mom up to my eyeballs trying to stay afloat. All that to say any SM content ideas and tips you share I will be happy to try.

I keep looking at tradwives and their crazy propaganda online and I cannot help but compare it to the role that women played in Germany in the 30's. The government gave out badges of honor for having four or more kids! Added additional punishments for abortion! It feels like we need to keep laying this bare.

Very helpful reminder to act locally & share our values loud & proud

Em, you shared something recently and I cannot find it! You essentially said calling about the SAVE ACT is pointless because it will never get the 60 votes it needs in the Senate. All my local groups are telling people to call Congress about this. Can you point me to where you talked about this? Or share again? THANK YOU for being a sane voice in the noise!

It was on stories. Legislation like this needs 60 votes to overcome the Fillibuster.

I feel like you’ve shared this before, but do you have an explainer of what’s needed to get rid of the Filibuster? What is the likelihood Republicans do it with their small majority in both chambers and then change basically everything?

All that's needed is for Senate republicans to decide to do it, it's a rules committee and majority floor vote. I have no idea what the liklihood is, but Republican Senate leader Thune is not in support.

Thank you Emily for continuing to give us a list of action items! I made my call to my representative to urge him to vote no on the Budget Tax Bill.

I really appreciate your breakdown of the Overton window here. Thank you. It’s interesting to see how the more extreme and radical ideas of the far right became more mainstream than the radical ideas on the left. For example, there was a time recently when Defund the Police was side by side with Abolish the Police - abolish obviously being the more radical belief. But even the less radical defund sentiment didn’t get movement enough to become policy (and in many states or cities we saw more police funding). I believe the right wing benefits from actually embracing ideas becoming mainstream whereas left wing and especially far left are averse to things they believe becoming adopted by the mainstream, aka if young white teen girls like it then it’s not cool anymore. It’s just not cool to care about electoral politics, so the left will constantly struggle to make in roads on progressive policy while the right seems to do it without even trying.

Something I love about your writing is that midway through a piece like this, just as I start to panic, I can tell myself that you’ll offer a solution at the end - and you always do (sometimes many!). Thank you for continuing to talk about the Overton Window!

Great explanation. Thank you! I feel like my innate skepticism and risk aversion pays off when it comes to things people will believe. LOL

This all makes the whole “We will take away women’s right to vote if their marriage name doesn’t match their birth certificate!” nonsense make sense now though! I always appreciate your explanation of the psychology behind all of this madness.

I have a question - Is there a different wording we might use if our Reps/Senators are all Democrats? I saw something recently that broke down how we may change wording based on the party we’re calling on an issue. I get the sense you want us to push our Dem Rep/Senators to more urgency and noise, so just include that?

Thank you for taking time out to read and respond if you can!

Hi, Emily! I’ve been calling MOC- but a friend also suggested adding WH to the call list. Do we find this a valuable use of time?? Find it hard to believe *that* will do anything but scream into the void… but I also know calling R reps helps! (IL resident here so have all Dem MOC). Thanks for all you do!

These are great examples of things we can do. I will be coming back to reference this, thank you!
