Emily are you coming to Maine??? Sign me up! I live adjacent to Portland. Best little city there ever was. Poppi would love it here! Very dog friendly.
Well we have trees! However, I think you’d miss Keith Edwards. Do you think he’d come to Maine to visit you. I’d attend that meet up too! (Maybe not, I just went to his IG profile and it says he is “always cold”. 😂)
Hi!! We started another thread down below of people in Maine if you want to connect. Apologies if you've already commented there, I'm having trouble keeping up!
Saying hello from Portland, ME, in case anyone else is in the area!
Anywho, I love your writing and your insights, Emily, and I'm so glad I found you on Instagram and that you're now on Substack, too.
I find myself simultaneously intrigued and terrified by AI. As a director of content marketing at a healthcare company, I know that AI could take large parts of my job (if not the whole thing) sometime soon. I'm not worrying about that too much, yet, as I spend a lot of time scolding ChatGPT for its below-par answers to my queries. For now, I'm trying to use it to my advantage to support aspects of my job and make my life and my colleagues' lives easier. But I love the reminder about brain rot. I don't want to lose the way I think—my mind is my favorite part of me!—so I'm going to be more careful from now on about how I use it (more as an assistant than a replacement).
Hi! I am a little farther away but would love to connect! I am happy to help organize. I only know of substack chats directed by the creator. Should we start a group text chat or email? Do a Google form to find out preferences for day / time / locale, or just plan and invite?
I think an email might be best to start given how finicky some phones can be with group texts...what do you think? Then we can send a Google form to those people to plan our first meetup/chat about how we stay in touch!
Helen is on it! I see her google sheet above! I had to get off of WhatsApp because I was receiving so many inappropriate messages (seriously, it was crazy!), but I could try to rejoin if it makes sense at some point.
Oh the whole AI thing. I work in a field where I should know more than I do, but honestly I’m ok with surface level because I don’t have that need to use it. Even for simple things. And as much as I love my phone I do miss the days where I wasn’t dependent on it. And some days I’d love to walk away from SM but also I’ve met so many people that I’ve known for ages (clear back to when we just blogged for fun) that I don’t want to lose those connections. But I do need a better balance.
Love these Friday posts. I would add knitting/crocheting to the list of grandma hobbies. I started during the pandemic. I love it especially when traveling.
Hi Emily! Saw on Instagram that you're officially coming to Maine. Yay! A bunch of us are actively planning a get-together on a quickly growing email thread and would love to invite you. I DMed you my contact info (here on Substack) if you're interested in trying to join us!

LOL, I don't know!!!! I literally have no idea what I'm doing with my life but I need TREES.

Thank you for everything you do!
Also in Portland and always looking to strengthen my network here! Shall we get something organized?
Yes, let's do it! What do you think is the best way to get started? Does Substack have a separate group chat feature we can at least start out on?
I just created a Google sheet for us to add emails - I can create an email thread and go from there? Maybe set up a WhatsApp group or something

Perfect, thanks Helen! And I was thinking WhatsApp eventually too, if everyone is on board.
Perfect. Thanks, Helen!
