OKAY, we need the VERY ORGANIZED gal from last week to give us guidance. What people have done before when making connections is to DM each other or she posted a google form to collect info. Then go together to a coffee shop or maybe an indivisible meeting. or your local dem group of course. These things take a bit of effort but hopefully you can make connections that are life improving in the comments!
Hello Massachusetts and New England folks - we have a splinter group from the Sharon McMahon book club you might want to join. Look for Magovernerds on IG. There's an IG chat you can request to join, as well as some specialized Signal chats.
WASHINGTON, DC - involved with Swing Left, an Indivisible offshoot grassroots group, and getting involved with DC Dems. Volunteered for social medial chair for DC Young Dems. Always love more EYP/Dem friends!
I'm just across the river in Alexandria. I would love to learn more about Swing Left. I volunteer with Moms Demand Action and I'm involved with Common Defense
Hi from NW DC! Totally stalking updates on this budget bill as I have two school aged children and am so worried. Worried about so many things but especially the gutting of DC Budget. Definitely looking for ways to be involved as new DC resident.
I’ll be returning to the DC area this summer and am looking for a group or two to join to be more actively involved. If an EYP Action group gets going or anyone has found great orgs for on the ground work, I’m interested!
I’m also in DC! I’m a teacher in northern Virginia, and I also serve on the Board of my local union that’s affiliated with the NEA. Would love to learn more about DC Young Dems!
DALLAS, TEXAS (DFW area) - I was born and raised here and am so passionate about working with local democratic groups to create community. I would love to connect!!!
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - recent NYC transplant and finding my way into the NY Dem Party & volunteer groups. Would love others that want to take Emily's challenge to take over the Dem Party and start making courageous decisions!
The meal train post was so helpful to read this morning. I needed to figure out what to take a friend next week and that post saved me so much time. I love that the author included so many gluten free options, including cookies.
These Friday Roundup posts are a wonderful way to end the week. I hope you have a fun, restful weekend.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA - I've recently organized a rebel ladies book club and desperately want to get involved in local progressive politics but none to be found so far (in the Seminole County suburbs at least, I'm not in Orange County where we DO have progressives with real voices and action!)
SAN FRANCISCO, CA: hosted a small group for a Democracy in Retrograde brunch and am dating Working Families Party as a home for political work and DSA for volunteering.
RICHMOND, VA - Independent voter, finding my way into the Dem party. Agree on Emily’s challenge to takeover the D party. Interested in tangible service projects/community involvement.
Hey! Also in chesterfield/rva area! Happen to be actively involved and work for the DPVA. There’s some great folks in both committees. It’s also a big election year so volunteering with candidates will definitely be a great way to join in.
Elise, in addition to volunteering with a campaign,, do you have suggestions for ways we can get active? Do you know of any meet ups, needs we could help fill, etc?
Well the Ches Dems is a very active committee. They can be…an interesting crew. But definitely active and doing lots of things. I don’t know about their specific events, but they have an instagram page & you can probably dm to ask about that. Or the chair’s email is on the vademocrats.org website. Sorry that’s not more helpful!
TAMPA, FLORIDA (Pasco county) - would love more support here in Tampa. Am a part of my local Dem county group (running for BOD) but would love to build a bigger community here.
Colorado Springs, CO — we (rightly) have the rep of being an evangelical bastion, but we are trending purple! I grew up in Indiana so I can talk GOP/bright red evangelical but the past ten years have pushed me to care for people, not profits. Would love to connect with other independents to push other candidates forward, esp on our dumpster fire school boards.
And to be clear, I’m very liberal but liked the freedom of the independent affiliation when I first moved here and CO was still using an open caucus. Also very deconstructed, but if I have to, I like using the same Bible the right clings to and challenge things.
Hey guys, Emily’s pick for Dem senate leader just voted yes. Anyone know why she likes him? I hope she changes her mind asap. I’m so mad at the dems right now.
Hi! I think you DM'd me too about this like immediatly after the vote in a way that indicated to me you were projecting your frustration about Dems on me. I have no idea why he voted that way, I was also suprised! I think I've been pretty clear where I stand on the CR! I have been thinking that Schatz is the one who will get leader next. He's made some smart comments about messaging. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/12/27/brian-schatz-democrats-talk-like-normal-people-00196058 I've met him and found him to be a normal human being. Anyone who has been following me for a while will know, I say my predictions but that intervening events will change my calculus. I don't have any idea what happens next but I think it's pretty unlikely Schumer steps down as leader. That being said, there's a new leader election every 2 years.
Thanks for the response, and all makes sense! I don’t think it was me that DMed you since I’m not even sure how to send you a DM… that’s why I wrote the comment here to ask others for more context. But if I did leave a comment somewhere that sounded projecting, I’m sorry!
SARASOTA, FL - I'm bummed my small boring liberal arts town is now the hotbed of MAGA. Looking for ways to get involved. Technically I'm in Bradenton but don't claim it ;) I think there are lots of blue dots here, just the red hats are older and louder.
Hi All! If you are looking to connect with people in your geographic area, make a comment formatted like:

Oh yay! I'm in Hanover County. I don't drive much but would love to connect with y'all!
🥳 if there’s a way for us to message on Substack, I’m totally up for an RVA chat!
Hi! I'm also in Richmond, VA (Chesterfield County) and love those ideas!
Also in Cfield!
Hey! Also in chesterfield/rva area! Happen to be actively involved and work for the DPVA. There’s some great folks in both committees. It’s also a big election year so volunteering with candidates will definitely be a great way to join in.
Just requested to follow you all! I think we can set up a group DM?
Okay I couldn’t figure out a group message. Seems like it’s just a thing for subscribers. Fail.

I’m about an hour and a half east of Richmond on the Middle Peninsula. It’s a little bit of a hike but interested in keeping up to date with y’all!
AUSTIN, TX anybody?.....
Would love to meet more like minded folks who WANT to talk politics and stay informed while talking about all the other stuff of life.
TAMPA, FLORIDA (Pasco county) - would love more support here in Tampa. Am a part of my local Dem county group (running for BOD) but would love to build a bigger community here.

DENVER, COLORADO - looking for a local dem group or community to get involved with and redirect my rage in a positive way.
Also in the Denver area!
I'm closer to Boulder but I'd like to get together with a group.
Me too!!
Also in Denver!
I'm also in the Denver metro and would love to join something too!
❤️ I’ll DM you all and I can set up a WhatsApp Group or text group to meet up and make a plan.

Okay, it was someone else with a G name (how my brain remembers things.) Glad my answer was helpful. FWIW I am watching out for Schatz's explanation.
I saw this too! I haven’t seen any justification from him on why he voted Yes.

Hi! I'm up near Tampa, but would be happy to meet in the middle at some point!
