EXPLAINER: They Want Us All to Be Breeders
A pronatalism explainer for those who thought this was just fringe nonsense
When conservatives overturned Roe v. Wade, it wasn’t the end of the anti-choice movement, it was a stepping stone.
Since then they’ve moved on and rebranded. They’re busy, busier than we ever thought would be possible. And I don’t think I am exaggerating when I say that their plan is more far reaching and well funded than I imagined.
Conservatives are currently working to:
Outlaw abortion at a state-by-state level
Take away medication abortion
Institute constitutional fetal personhood
Take away access to contraception
And none of this is a fringe movement. It isn’t coming from the pulpits of the televangelists. It’s coming straight from the marketing minds of the girlie-pops and the broligarchs.
The conservative influencers we talked about on Monday like Isabel Brown and Lila Rose are putting a glossy spin on all of this. And billionaires like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel are pushing this agenda under the banner of pronatalism and saving the planet.
Let’s be straight about one thing. Pronatalism is just a new veneer to the same plan to turn back the clock on women’s rights in America.
The essence of pronatalism isn't subtle; what it is saying is the decision to have children isn't yours to make. Instead, it's a tool for achieving the goals of men in positions of power.
The movement is reproductive authoritarianism dressed up in family values rhetoric. It's not about babies. It's about control. And we need to recognize this threat for what it is before the Overton Window shifts even more and these policies creep even further into mainstream legislation.
This idea, the one that seems like it is straight out of science fiction, is coming for all of us. And it’s taking center stage in litigation headed towards the Supreme Court.
